About Us - Tuffs Farm, Chipperfield

Tuffs Farm sits on Tower Hill, in the parish of Chipperfield, Hertfordshire — a farm that's been part of this landscape for over 400 years. The farmhouse dates back to the late 1500s, with a barn added in the late 1600s. Both are Grade II listed, recognised for their timber-framed construction, weatherboarding and steep old red-tile roofs — hallmarks of Hertfordshire farm buildings of the period. The farmhouse itself was extended over the centuries, including an addition in 1938, while the barn still stands much as it did over 300 years ago.

It sits within a wider cluster of historic farm buildings on Tower Hill, on the edge of the Chiltern Hills — a landscape that's remained largely rural and hedged farmland despite its closeness to Watford and Hemel Hempstead.

Roger & Mandy Pritchard

For many years, Tuffs Farm was managed by Roger and Mandy Pritchard, who farmed the land and supplied haylage to local equestrians across the area. Their years of hard work built a loyal following among yards and pony owners nearby — a reputation that the farm still carries today.

Russell Kitching— 2023 to Today

Russell bought Tuffs Farm in September 2023. He has always lived locally, and has kept the farm true to its roots — converting the farmhouse and cottages into holiday accommodation, while continuing to farm the land himself. The meadows are still cut, baled and wrapped right here, and the haylage still goes out to keep ponies fed in the villages around Chipperfield.
